I completed my internship at local publication, Jacksonville Magazine. Since 1983, the magazine has celebrated all things Jacksonville and shed light on hidden gems that make this city unique so I was very eager and grateful to receive the opportunity to be a part of that. As an editorial intern, my main responsibility was creating pieces for both online and print for readers and subscribers. But what was most unique about my experience was since it is a smaller, local publication I was involved in the entire process: from story pitch to finished piece in the next issue. With each new assignment, I conducted research, in-person and over the phone interviews, occasionally took photos for digital media, created the story, networked with other media representatives in order to gather necessary photos to accompany the story when needed, and edited the piece before going to print.

I also assisted with special events the magazine hosted throughout my time there. Some of the tasks I completed during a typical event consisted of set-up and clean up, assisting guests and vendors, providing answers to inquiries involving the magazine, and anything else needed to help the event run smooth and successfully. Through my time at the magazine, I got to meet so many good people, acquire a whole new sense of responsibility and see many different places and try new things. In doing so, it expanded my view of potential in all things: Jacksonville, the people who live here and myself as a writer.
